Aging Together: Family Decision-Making Support

Virtual consultation and education for families facing difficult decisions about an aging parent or loved one.

When an aging family member’s needs begin to change, families can quickly find themselves overwhelmed.

Should Mom continue living independently?
Is it time to bring in more help?
How do we talk with Dad about driving?
What happens if the siblings disagree?
How do we respect our parent’s wishes while also addressing safety?
How do we make decisions without everyone feeling guilty, angry, or unheard?

You don’t have to figure it all out on your own.

A Different Kind of Support

Matt provides non-clinical consultation and psycho-education to help families slow down, understand the situation, communicate more effectively, and make thoughtful decisions together.

His role isn’t to tell your family what you should do.

Instead, Matt helps you create a process for determining what makes the most sense for your family and, most importantly, for the person who is aging.

We can work together to:

  • Clarify what matters most to your aging relative
  • Identify competing priorities, concerns, and fears
  • Improve communication among family members
  • Navigate disagreements between siblings, spouses, or generations
  • Think through changes in living arrangements, caregiving, independence, or support
  • Balance autonomy, safety, quality of life, and family capacity
  • Prepare for difficult conversations before they become crises
  • Understand and organize the information you need to make decisions
  • Identify questions to bring to physicians, attorneys, financial professionals, or other specialists
  • Develop a practical next-step plan
  • Revisit decisions as circumstances change
